Just a little update, I currently have on order a new build.
To save power, I decided to converge my Xeon D NAS and my VMware Build.
Just a teaser of the parts include

64GB DDR4
6X 6TB He6 Sata Hard Drives
2.2TB HGST VIRIDENT FLASHMAX II
At only 35W for the Xeon with 8 cores and 16 threads I’ll save a bit of money on power alone. I plan on experimenting with a variety of storage technologies via VMs in this build to balance performance and max storage capacity.
